Abstract

The technology advancement has envisaged going for near net shape of the produces. Also, near netshapes formed are again cold upset for obtaining a final shape of the Product. This work deals with an experimental determination of friction factor ‘m’ for Aluminium powder preforms under different lubricating conditions. A standard of rings of ratio 6:3:2 produced under a constant compacting pressure of 240.7 (Mpa) and sintered at 525 ± 10° C and 550 ± 10° C were tested. The reduction in internal diameter and reduction in height of the Preforms were measured using a digital vernier. The Lubricants that were used are namely Zinc stearate, MoS2, Graphite and dry condition. Graph was established between percentage reduction in internal diameter and percentage reduction in height for different friction factors for the lubricants considered. Care was taken to place specimen axially to the top and bottom platen. Also graphs between percentage reduction in internal diameter and compression load, percentage reduction in height and compression load were established.
