Biodiesel is one of the most promising alternative fuels for diesel engines because they are potential renewable, non-toxic, biodegradable, clean burning, high lubricity, low environmental impact, derived from vegetable oils and could be used directly in diesel engines without requiring extensive engine modifications. In the present work, the experiments have been conducted on a single cylinder, 4-stroke, Direct Injection constant speed diesel engine with different blends of sunflower oil by varying the load to investigate the engine performance and exhaust emission. From the investigation, it is concluded that the performance of sunflower oil are good and results indicated that B15 has closer performance to diesel. The Co-Active Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (CANFIS) model for brake power (BP), brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emission have been developed with the experimental data. The adequacy of the developed model is verified by using co-efficient of determination (R). It was found that the R2 value is 0.999986834, 0.999995997 and 0.999995023 for brake power, brake specific fuel consumption and NOx. To judge the ability and efficiency of the model to predict the engine performance and emission, absolute error and mean absolute precentage error has been used. The research showed acceptable prediction results for the CANFIS model.
