Abstract

The objective of the work was to study drillability behaviour of Al/Al2O3 composites for different drilling conditions such as speed, feed and composition of composites. The drillability tests were conducted using sensitive drilling machine and high speed steel tools used for drilling. The drilling forces were recorded using drill dynamometer. Surface finish was evaluated by a surface profilometer and tool wear and geometry by optical and scanning electron microscopes. The qualitative and quantitative experimental results are reported in terms of drilling thrust forces, torque forces and tool wear.
