Importance of Computer Aided Process Planning Approach in Reconfigurable Manufacturing System

Computer aided process planning system plays a key role to integrate design and manufacturing or assembly systems properly considering available resources and design constraints. Traditional Computer aided process planning system is static because of creating process without regard to workshop dynamic information. Computer aided process-planning system suited for RMS must integrate substructure status of manufacturing system and information from production scheduling, produce excellent process with good adaptability. General approaches of computer-aided process planning system are discussed in brief. The characteristic of computer-aided process planning system structure based on literature suited for reconfigurable manufacturing system are also presented in this research paper.
