A new current control strategy is implemented to control the BLDC motor drive based on a common DC signal. In this paper current sensors are used to sense the motor currents, these currents are compared with reference currents to get required error for controlling BLDC drive. This error is compensated in PI controller and is compared with the triangular wave to produce the desired pulses. In this way the amplitude of the signal is controlled in a closed loop manner by sensing the output currents and comparing with reference currents. The instant at which it has to be given is found by using the position sensors. This strategy is very simple, dynamic in behavior, easy and flexible to control & implement. The major advantage being one signal is sufficient to control the three phase currents of the motor. The program selected for implementation is SimPowerSystems/Matlab to show the dynamic characteristics, flexibility & simplicity of drive system. It has been compared with the conventional techniques and excellent results have been found.
