Abstract

Poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) complexed with Mg 2+ionborate glass solid polymer electrolyte films have been prepared using solution – cast procedure. Xray diffraction, optical microscopy, ion transport number and conductivity studies have been performed to characterize this solid polymer electrolyte system. The ion conductivity has been found to be three orders larger upon adding the Mg 2+glass to PEO. The higher conductivity of PEO: Mg glass film is about 10 −5S/cm at 373 K. Electrochemical cells have been fabricated with the configuration of Mg/(PEO: Mg)/(I2 + C + electrolyte) and their discharge characteristics have been studied.
