Abstract

The main objective of this work is the application of chemometric methods which lead to a comprehensive picture of the present pollution status of the Godavari waters in Rajahmundry region. Such representation can be used during the preliminary study of the area and in the interpretation, analysis and study of the dynamic processes occurring in the environment. Once the first static image of the system is obtained, a further step monitoring the “evolution” of quality of the wastes may be required, either to impose further restrictions on the emissions or to evaluate the effect of the adopted treatment methods. In such a complex and multivariate space as that generated by the measurements of many parameters of water pollution indicators only a multivariate approach can help to avoid the study of as many time series as the number of variables measured for each outfall. The approach proposed here indicates how it is possible to follow the evaluation of each location from just a few plots, from which the variables responsible for the main changes can be easily detected.
