Studies were conducted on the antifungal properties of isolates from sweet cassava starch using conventional streak method and Novel ring method. The biocompetitive tendencies of isolated microflora against potential pathogenic fungi from sweet cassava starch through production of certain chemical metabolites were investigated. The organisms Bacillus pumilus was predominantly active against Aspergillus niger and Fusarium nivale while Pseudomonas fluorescens and Saccharomyces sp were assayed active against Aspergillus parasiticus and Fusarium moniliformes respectively. The intercolony distance and inhibition zones were more pronounced in Novel ring method than streak method as the percentage inhibition increased to 71.9% in the ring method and 65.5% in the streak method after 168h of incubation. However, the bacterial isolates were investigated to have been able to inhibit the growth of their respective pathogenic fungi from sweet cassava starch through their extracellularly produced chemical metabolites (exotoxin).
