Kolleru Lake of Andhra Pradesh, India is the largest fresh water body in South India.It extends over about 954 sq. km from the 0 to10.7 ft Contour MSL. It lies between longitudes 810 5’ and 810 20’ East and latitudes of 160 32’ and 160 51’ North in the districts of Krishna and West Godavari.it receives discharge from various cities and runoff from agricultural lands. The surface water samples were collected in glass bottles in three seasons from the Nervali drain, Chandraih drain, Budameru River, Kolleru lake and Upputeru drain and Yenamaduru drain. The presence of pesticides in the Kolleru lake and the associated drains is posing a serious threat to the aquatic life and human health. The water samples were collected various points and analyzed for pesticides using Gas chromatography. In this paper study is focused on analysis of pesticides concentrations of Monocrotophos, Acephate, Profenofos, Atrazins, Chlorpyrifos and Tricyclazol. The concentrations of above pesticides in all the samples were observed above the permissible limits prescribed by the US EPA.
