The global environment is degrading due to socio economic activities of mankind. Environmental protection and sustainable development are gaining public importance. Industries that cause adverse changes to the environment are being challenged by the society. The global leather industry is one among them. Phytoremediation is one of the useful technologies in managing tanning industry wastes. Seeds of vigna mungo were grown in 25% and 50% concentrated effluent. grains developed fom the control, and two test plant sets were analysed for antioxidants like ascorbic acid, tocopherol, catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. Results show that levels of all the parameters except super oxide dismutase had an increase in their contents as the concentration of the effluent increased. Heavy metals released through the effluent had an impact on the antioxidant content of vignamungo.
