Utilisation of Waste News Paper Hydrolysates in Growth and Production System of Neurospora Crassa

Abstract

Neurospora crassa is the most significant microbes for the liquid and solid waste management. Enomorous amounts of agricultural, industrial and municipal lignocelluloses waste have been constantly piled up or used quite inefficiently because of the very high cost of their utilization process. This creates a problem for the ecological and environmental balance. Therefore it is a considerable economic interest in the development of processes for effective pretreatment and utilization of cellulosic wastes. Due to efficient producers of cellulases, they are highly useful in solid waste management through the utilization of lignocellulosic biomass such as wheat bran, bagasse, wheat straw, ground nut shell waste, corn cobs, industrial waste and coconut coir pith. N.crassa is also capable to bioremediate toxic metals and hazardous components.Waste paper hydrolysate is an industrial waste containing higher percentege of cellulose. In the present experimental study we investigate the utilization of waste news paper hydrolyzates in Neurospora crassa growth and production system. Acid pretreatments were carried out by using 30–70% H2SO4, with 1 hr pretreatment time. Batch experiments were performed using waste news paper hydrolysates containing media by Neurospora crassa at 180 rpm, 30°C with intial pH 5.0. It has been observed that 40% H2SO4 treated waste news paper hydrolyzates is better for the Neurospora growth and production system. The utilization of economically cheap waste news paper hydrolyzates for growth and production is a novel and valuable approach for solid waste management which makes the process more cost effective and environmental viable.
