Abstract

Rotifers are commonly known as Wheel animalcule. They are good bioindicators of water quality with respect to water pollution.The present Study based on study on rotifer diversity from fresh water pond of Akurdi (Pune) area. It is a perennial water body exhibiting variety of aquatic flora and micro fauna throughout the year.collections were made by using planktonic net. Twelve sp.of rotifers recorded in this investigation.the loricate species were dominant. The dominant order was Ploima (75%) Followed by Flosculariaceae (17%) and then Bdelloida (8%).

Brachionus leydigi (Cohn 1862) recorded for the first time in Maharashtra state. Presence of Brachionus Sp. and Testudinella species indicate the alkaline nature of the Pond.
