The effect of urea (5%) as a source of ammonia to salvage rain drenched sorghum hay (51% moisture) was evaluated by chemical analysis and in sacco nylon bag technique. Treated material was free from moulds. Treatment increased CP (P<0.01) and ash contents by 111% and 14% and decreased NDF, hemicellulose (P<0.05), ADF and ADL by 10,18,5 and 20%, respectively. However, treatment did not influence the CF and cellulose contents. Urea-ammonia-tion enhanced the ME content of hay from 1.82 to 2.52 Mcal/kg DM. The nylon bag data of DM and NDF disappearance in rumen was Fitted to the model P = a + b (l-e-ct). The rate (c) and extent of degradability (a + b) were found to be increased (P<0.01) by the treatment.
