Voluntary Intake and Nutritive Value of Common Rag Weed (Ambrossia artemisiifolia L.) in Goats

Abstract

Six adult non-producing Black Bengal goais (22-24m, 13.05 kg) were fed common rag weed as sole feed. The voluntary intake of common rag weed in goats was 4.24 kg per 100 kg body weight or 79.94g/kg W0.75. The weed contained CP 12.95, CF 25.32, EE1.86, NFE 52.19, TA 7.68, Ca 1.57 and PO.23%. The DCP, TDN and DE values of rag weed were 10.14 ±0.17%, 73.51 ± 0.67% and 3.15 ± 0.94 Kcal/kg, respectively, on DM basis. The balances of N, Ca and P weee positivee The intake of DM, DCP, TDN, DE, Ca and P were sufficient to meet the maintenance needs of goats.
