Abstract

Spent (extracted) leaves of Himalayan tea (Camellia sinensis (L) 0. Kuntze) of Kangra valley, Himaclinl Pradesh had 29.93% CP, 51.08% cell-contents, 11.53% cellulose, 48.92% NDF, 29.54% ADF, 17.09% ADL, 0.92% silica and 40.28% IVDMD, 0.53% Ca, 0.28% P, 678 ppm Mn, 268 ppm Fe, 28 ppm Zn and 16 ppm Cu on DM basis. The quality of spent tea leaves is comparable to medium quality roughages for feeding to ruminants during severe droughts and fodder famine.
