Abstract

Spawn of Pleurotus ostreatus was used for the treatments-autoclaving, steaming, heating and untreated lor solid state fermentation (SSF) of dried, ground wheat straw (25g) using 75 ml distilled water containing 1% sodium bicarbonate. Samples were analyzed for DM loss, colour, hiomass, degradability of DM using nylon-bag (NBDMD) and digestible DM recovery (DDMR). The biomass production increased (P<0.05) In all the treatmentgroups compared to untreated straw. Nitrogen accumulation was highest in the autoclaved straw (1.5%), DM degradability was almost similar in all the treatment groups hut digestible DM. recovery was higher (P<0.0S) in the heated straw (42.67%). The steamed wheat straw appeared to be better in nutritive value.
