Abstract

Jungle rice (Echinochloa colonum) grass contained CP 5.60, CF 33.75, EE 2.0, NFE 46.15, TA 12.80, Ca 0.39 and P 0.08% on DM basis. Five Barbari kids of about 5 m of age (14.47±2.2S kg B.W.) were fed on fresh jungle rice grass ad-libitum for 30 d. The voluntary DM infake was 5.24±0.22 kg/100 kg body weight. The grass contained 2.51±0.43% DCP and 47.70±l.96% TDN, The daiiy gain in body weight was 26.67 g/head. The nutrient digesttbilities were sattsfactory and all the goats showed positive balance for N but the balances of Ca and P were negative. Hence it is concluded that the jungle rice can not meet the DCP, Ca and F requrements of the growing goats.
