Abstract

Ten 42d old Soviet Chinchilla weaner males were divided into two groups and fed Sarder (T1) and Lipton (T2) brand commercial pelleted feeds apart from coarsely ground mixed grass hay in proportion of 80:20 for 42d. Digestibilities of OM, EE and NFE were lower in T2 however, N balance was not affected. Higher DMI in T2 reflected compensatory feed intake of low nutritive value to meet energy requirements, ADG and dressing % were similar, but higher feed intake in T2 resulted in increased feed cost per unit gain. Nutritive value of the two feeds Indicated an Imbalance In either protein or energy.
