Abstract

Thirty Murrah buffalo heifers (12–18 m, 90–120 kg) divided into 3 equal groups, were fed individually on 100 (I), 125 (II) and 75% (III) DCP requirement of the ICAR feeding standard aiongwith 100% TDN. DM consumption (g/d) was not influenced by dietary levels of protein. Digestibilities of CP and EE were significantly (P<0.01) higher in group II than in other groups. However, CF digestibility was significantly (P< 0.01) higher in group III than other groups. N balances were positive in all the groups. The weight gains (g/d) were 490.55±11.23 520.55±12.56 and 406.66±7.62 in groups I, II and III, respectively. The plasma urea concentrations (mg/100 ml) in corresponding groups were 19.44±0.27, 27.09±0.22 and 13.19±0.17.
