Two types of concentrates for ruminants manufactured by Public Sector Feed Plant at Bhatian near Khanna (Punjab), i.e. ‘By-Pass’ Protein (BPP, CP 28.65%) and ISI-marked concentrate (CP 20.56%) were fed to male Murrah buffalo calves as per Feed Plant recommendations. The growth rate was significantly (P<0.05) lower where 50% control concentrate was cut down as replace-men! by BPP concentrate. The digestibility co-efficients of nutrients and N retention, however, were not very different in the three groups. Energy and CP intakes could not be made good when concentrate quota was reduced to half by feeding by-pass protein concentrate.
