Effect of Different Dietary Zinc and Calcium Levels on the Performance of Broiler Chicks

Abstract

Three hundred and six, day-old broiler chicks were fed two dietary calcium levels (1.03 and 1.98%) and three zinc levels (63, 93 and 123 pprn) in a factorial design from 0–4 weeks of age. The body weight gain and feed intake did not differ due to dietary levels of zinc, but differed significantly (P<0.01) due to higher level of calcium. The feed conversion ratio did not differ due to level of zinc and calcium or their interaction. Supplementation of zinc above BIS specification did not prove beneficial, while higher calcium level had adverse effects on feed intake and body weight gain.
