Utilization of Cemea (Autoclaved Cereal-Urea) Products in Ruminant (in sacco and in vitro)

Abstract

The cereal-urea products (Cerea) were prepared by autoclaving cereals of varying nature (wheat, maize, barley, paddy, oats, sorghum and bajra) with urea (0, 5, 10 and 15%) for varying durations (0, 5,10, 15 mill). In-sacco degradation of Cerea DM was maximum with wheat (90.27%) and minimum with paddy (74.36%). Mean degradabality of bound-N of Cerea was maximum with sorghum group (34.67%) followed by wheat (33.25%) and minimum with oats (19.97%). The pepsin insoluble-N (% of total N) was maximum with paddy (65.8%) and minimum with maize (51.1%). As the autoclaving time increased the in-vitro NH concentration decreased. At the same time cerea! species had significant effect on NH production and its uptake by the microbes. While among the unautoclaved mixtures wheat-urea combination produced the maximum amount of TCA- ppt-N, followed by sorghum, paddy barley bajra maize and oats mixtures, the mean Improvement as a result of 10 min autoclaving was in the order oats (91.3%), maize (89.6%) paddy (86.1%) barley (85.7%) sorghum (84.3%) bajra (83.2%) and wheat (74.1%) and increase in autoclaving period had small affect (3.46–7.03%) so 10 min duration is recommended.
