Effect of snolasses and common salt on metabolizability of GE, DM and retention of N, Ca, P, Na and K in broilers was studied. Each of ten dietary treatsnents with similar caloric protein ratio was offered to three replicated groups of 10 Wrds isi each replicate. Treatment T, containing 0.73% salt wiihout molasses served as control. In treatments T2, T3 and T4, maize of control diet was replaced by 5,7.5 and 10% molasses (w/w). Broilers under T5 and T6 received diet T1 along with 2 and 3% (v/v) molasses in drinking water. Dietary treatments T7 and T8 or T9 and T10 contained 1.42 or 1.93% NaCl in diet. Birds under T8 and T10 also received 3% (v/v) molasses in drinking water. At the sixth week of age, a metabolic trial of 3-days was conducted. The DM metabolizability was higher (P<0.05) in dietary treatments T2, T3 and T5 but lowest in treatments T4 and T6 GE metabolizability and N-retention per unit calorie intake were similar in all the treatments. The retention of Ca P Na and K increased (P<0.01) with supplemental molasses. The higher levels of salt in diet decreased the retention of Ca and P while that of Na and K Increased. The birds on high salt diet receiving molasses had improved (P<0.01) retention of Ca and P. However retention of Na could not be alleviated by molasses though it contained 1.73% K.
