Twelve buffalo calves (300±25 kg, 2–3 yrs), divided into 3 groups, were fed 2.5 kg concentrate mixture (CM) and 2 kg wheat straw (T1), 1.5 kg CM and 3 kg wheat straw (T2); 0.5 kg CM and 4kg wheat straw (T3) per head per day. Groups T2 and T3 consumed 559 g and 695 g uromin lick to replace the CM. Thedigesttbiiity coefficients of proximate principles were comparable In all the groups. Nitrogen intake was non-significantly higher in group T but significantly (P<0.05) lower in group T than in group T. Nitrogen balance was 35.5,39.5 and 28.5 g/d in ggoupss T1, T2 and T3 respectively. The DCP intake also had a similar trend. The TDN intakes fa corresponding groups were 3.43, 3.00 and 2.73 kg/d. It was concluded that one kg CM could safely be replaced by the ad lib, feeding of uromin lick provided energy intake was made good by other feeds.
