Abstract

Saccharification of lignocellulosic component of rumen contents (RC) using cellulase produced by Aspergillus terreus CLRI I 5nd its mutant was compared. The soluble carbohydrates (25.50%), crude fiber (12.50%) losses and an increase of crude protein (14.77%) content of RC were relatively more when treated with mutant produced more cellulolytic enzymes than wild organism. The latter exhibited maximum growth on 10th day, thereafter crude protein and soluble carbohydrates were reduced whereas the growth of mutant was rapid with an increase in soluble carbohydrates and crude protein content upto 15th day of post inoculation. Since the nutrient availability of A.terreus mutant treated RC is more, it warrant for its utilisation in animal feed formulations.
