Comparative Evaluation of Kids and Lambs Fed on Cotton Seed Hulls and Poultry Waste Based Concentrate Mixture

Twelve each of male kids and ram Iambs were fed on cotton seed hulls (CSH) and a low cost concentrate supplement containing unconventional feed ingredients such as poultry droppings and poultry litter. Average daily gain (ADG) was higher in iambs than in kids during the first 90 d than subsequent 90 d growth, resulting in. higher feed'efficiency In Iambs. Higher ADG of 55, 61 and 70 g waa sbserved In lambs than in kids under supplemental feeding to reach target weights of 18, 22 and 25 kg, respectively. Cost per kg live weight gain was comparatively cheaper in lambs with Ms. 10.61, 10.45 and 9.66 to attain 18, 22 and 25 kg body weight than in kids with Rs. 20.21 and 18.26 to attain 18 and 22 kg body weight, respectively. There were no significant differences in the dressing percentage. carcass weights (kg), loin eye area (cm²) and weight of edible and non-edible organs in kids and lambs slaughtered and various target body weights. It was concluded that lambs can be raised economically on unconventional feed resources.
