Abstract

The effect of treating groundnut cake (GNC) by 1% formaldehyde (10.9 g ECHO/100 g CP) on N solubility in sodium chloride (NaCl) solution, McDoughall's buffer (MCD) and Burrough's mineral mixture (BMM) diluted to 10% with distilled water in vitro and niirogen (N) degradability in sacco were studied dsing crossbred steers. Formaldehyde treatment lowered N solubility by 81% and reduced the N disappearance as measured in sacco. Formaldehyde treatment of GNC drastically reduced the effective protein degradability by 55 and 47% as measured by Orskov and McDonald and Miller models, respectively.
