Abstract

Mustard straw (MS) was treated with urea and subsequently with fungi (Coprinus fimetarius) following two stage Kartia! process. N content of MS increased from 0.58 to 1.19 per cent on urea treatment, which was further raised to 1.49 per cent on fungal treatment, however NDF and lignin contents remained unchanged and-hemicellulose, cellulose and OM progressively decreased with proportionate increase in ADF and ash content on both the treatments. Ammonia-tion of MS Improved (P<0.01) its in vitro ory matter digestibility, however, fungal treatment did not improve it further. It was concluded that urea treatment of mustard straw increased its N content and IVDMD, however, fungal treatment using Coprinus fimetarius did not have added advantage due to OM loss.
