Dried Poultry Litter Supplementation to Crossbred Heifers Fed on Green Oats
Abstract
Twenty four crossbred (Jersey x Sahiwal) heifers (94.98±8.76 kg) were randomly divided into 4 equa! groups and fed on concentrate mixture containing 0, 25, 37.5 and 50 percent sun-dried poultry litter (PL) along with ad lib feeding of green oats for 90 d. There were no significant differences in the daiiy DM intake, feed conversion efficiency and nutrient digestibilities between control and PL substituted’ groups. The values for blood Hb, plasma uric acid, total protein, aspartate amino transferase and alanine amino transferase activities remained similar among the treatments, however, plasma alkaline phosphatase activity increased (P<0.01) as the level of PL increased.
