Twenty-live crossbred (Holstelan Freslan X Sahiwal) heifers (16-18m) were divided in five groups and fed on untreated wheat straw (T-l), 1.5% urea sprayed and dried (T-2), 1.5% urea with 200 g sodium sulphate (T-3), 3.5% urea, 9 d fermented wheat straw (T-4) and 3.5% urea+200 g sodium sulphate (T-5). All the groups were offered 0.8 kg (DM) green fodder and concentrate mixture. In group T1-T5 concentrate mixture was reduced @ 250 g for each kg of freated straw lntake. Urea treatments imroved CP content of straw significantly (P<0.05). Fermenta-tion (T-4) resulted in 72% loss of urea-N as against 26% during ssmple spraying and overnight stacking (T-2). S-supplementation further increased N losses in T-3 and T-5. The nutrient digestibilities remained similar in all treatments.
