Utilization of Subabul (Leucaena teucocephala) Leaf Meal in Layer Rations

Subabul leaf meal (SIM) was Included in the layers mash at 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 per cent levels on isonitrogenous and isocaloric basis. The experiment was carried out for 12 x 28 d periods. The performance of layers in terms of hen-day egg production, feed efficiency, egg weight and body weight were not influenced significantly by the SLM inclusion up to 6 per cent but the feed consumptton, shell thickness, albumen index values were significantly (P<0.01) higher in reference diet than in other SLM fed groups of layers. The colour of yolk was significantly (P<0.01) higher with the linear increase of SLM leavels in layer diets. Inclusion of SLM at 6 per cent in layer diets yielded highest profit over feed cost compared to other diets. Mortality and causes thereof were found to be independent of dietary treatments.
