Abstract

Chopped Dhawlu (Chrysopogonfulvus) grass at pre-flowerirag stage was fed ad lib. to 4 Murrah heifers (31–33 m; 257.83±8.24 kg B.wt.). The nutritive value of the grass was 4.1! % DCP, 60.27% TDN and 2.17 Mcal/kg DM. The daily intakes of DM, DCP, TDN and ME were 102.05 g, 4.19g, 61.51 g and 221.37 Kcal/kg W0.75, respectively. N-foalance was positive. It was concluded that Dhawlu grass, as sole source of feed, can meet the maintenance requirements of Murrah heifers.
