Rumen fermentation studies were carried out on three rumen flstulated Murrah male buffaloes, maintained on three complete diets in Latin square design. The diets consisted of urea treated wheat straw (40%), rice bran, molasses and oil cakes viz. deoiled groundnut cake, deoiled undecorticated cottonseed cake plus urea and deoiled mustard cake in groups I, II and III, respectively. Mean values of pH, TVFA and TCA ppt-Nitrogen in SRL were 6.78±0.07, 6.77±0.07 and 6.94±0.05; 9.36±0.86, 8.31±0.58 and 8.50±0.38 (meq/100mt); 56.18±2.91, 54.19±5.07 and 55.32±3.83 (mg/100 ml), respectively, in above sequence of groups. These values did not differ significantly. Ammonia nitrogen concentration was significantly higher (P<0.01) in group II but total nitrogen and nonprotein nitrogen of SRL were higher (P<0.01) In group I. In sacco dry matter disappearance figures were similar in all the groups.
