The effect of defaunation using sodium lauryl sulphate with two levels of protein (optimal and sub optimal) on rumen fermentation and enzyme activities was studied in four rumen fistulated crossbred bullocks. Defaunation significantly decreased (P<0.05) rumen pH, total soluble-N and ammonia-N in rumen liquor. The activities of enzyme carboxymethyl cellulase, amylase and xylanase were significanlty lower (P<0.05) and that of urease was higher In defaunated animals. The activities of these enzymes were significantly reduced with sub optimal protein ration.
