Abstract

The effect of screen size (3 mm and 5 mm) and the moisture content of wheat (10, 12 and 14%) on the performance of hammer mill was studied. The.modulus of fineness increased with the screen size and moisture level. The uniformity of milled products decreased from a ratio of 0:5:5 (uniformity index) to 0:6:4 as the moisture content increased using 3 mm screen. Increase in moisture level resulted in higher energy consumption and grinding time, whereas there was lower energy consumption and grinding time with increase in sieve size. The product particle size slightly increased with the increase in moisture content and sieve size. The surface area decreased with the increased level of moisture and sieve size.
