Genetic Variability in the Nutritional Quality of Sorghum Fodder

The nutritive value of six strains/varieties viz., PC-9, PC-21, PC-23, PC-28, improved Ramkel and S-136 of sorghum was studied using crossbred cattle. There was little difference in the proximate constituents of different strains/varieties. The voluntary dry matter intake (kg/100 body weight) varied from 1.87 to 2.36. The per cent DM digestibility ranged from 56.28 to 63.97 and differences were non-significant. The DCP and TDN values (%) varied from 2.30 to 2.80 and 55.59 to 65.07. The TDN contents were statistically significant (P<0.05) but the values for DCP were non-significant among strains/varieties.
