Effect of Type of Bran on Performance of White Leghorn Layers

75 White Leghorn birds (30 wk. age) randomly distributed into 3 groups of 5 replicates of 5 birds each were reared for 100 days on deep litter. Birds in group WB were fed a ration containing 15% wheat bran to fulfil their nutritional requirements. However, wheat bran was completely replaced with raw ricebran and par boiled rice bran in groups RRB and PRB, respectively. There was no significant difference in inital and final body wt. in different groups. Egg production and feed conversion efficiency were less (P>0.05) in group PRB, without any effect on feed consumption. Feed cost per kg. egg production was lowest in group RRB. It is concluded that wheat bran can be completely replaced by good quality raw rice bran in the ration of layers.
