Samples of groundnut kernel (unroasted 102 and roasted 109) and groundnut cake (108), obtained from distributors and retailers of two districts of Uttar Pradesh were screened for aflatoxins. Groundnut samples obtained from distributors contained only low levels (24–323 ppb) of aflatoxin, while those obtained from the retailers contained substantial concentration (108–742 ppb) of aflatoxin B. Survey indicated that groundnut cake is most susceptible to contamination with aflatoxin B1. Out of 77 contaminated groundnut cake samples, 74 contained aflatoxin B1 levels ranging from 110 to 742 ppb.
