Abstract

Nutrient digestibility of water soaked tamarind seed (Tamarindus indica) wasdetermined by difference method usingsix pregnant 75% crossbred (LWY X Desi) gilts. The DCP and TDN values were 10.41 and 80.03%, respectively. Feeding of pregnant, 75% crossbred (LWY x Desi) gilts on diets containing maize (R1) or water soaked tamarind seed (R2) did not reveal significant differences between tbe treatments on body weight gain and reproductive performance, however, the cost of feed/piglet weaned was significantly reduced (P<0.01) by Rs. 74.40 in gilts fed on R2. It was concluded that water soaked tamarind seed can be incorporated in diets of pregnant and lactating crossbred gilts to reduce cost of production.
