Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of 5 varieties (UPC-951, 952, 953, 5286 and 287) and 3 seed rates (30, 40 and 50 kg/ha) on yield, chemical composition, nutritive value and in ascco dry matter digestibility of cowpea fodder. Out of the five varieties tested UPC-953 out yielded over others in green fodder, DM, CP and DDM yield. The ash content was higher but DM, CF and cellulose contents were lower in variety UPC-953, thus showing its superiority over other varieties. The medium seed rate of 40 kg/ha was significantly superior than others in total green fodder, DM, CP and DDM yield.
