Effect of Feeding of Nahar Seed Meal on Performance of Crossbred Kids

Twenty four crossbred (Beetal x Assam local) kids (3 months, 7.08 to 7.17 kg b.wt.), randomnly divided into four groups, were fed concentrate mixture in which maize of control ration was replaced by Nahar seed meal at 50, 75 and 100 per cent level along with green oats throughout the experimental period of 280 days. The chemical composition of Nahar seed meal was CP, 15.82; EE 18.45; CF 4.29; NFE 56.62; Total ash 5.12; Ca, 1.14 and P 0.45 percent on DM basis. Growth performance of all the groups was similar and all the animals were in positive nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus balance. There was no significant effect on digestibilities of DM, CP, EE, CF and NFE due to feeding of Nahar seed meal at graded levels even upto 100 per cent replacement of maize. The cost per kg body weight gain was reduced in all the experimental groups compared to the control group. It can be concluded that Nahar seed meal can replace maize in goats’ ration.
