On-Farm Study on Partial Replacement of Concentrate Mixture with Jack Fruit Waste on Milk Production in Crossbred Cows

Abstract

DCP and TDN content of jack fruit waste, estimated by difference method was 4.17±0.06 and 72.08±2.06 per cent, respectively. Eight crossbred lactating cows (2nd jactation, around 70 days post-partum) selected at farmers doorstep were distributed into 2 groups of 4 each. Group I was fed on concentrate, mixed grass and paddy straw whereas in the ration of group II, one third of the concentrate was replaced with about 5kg fr.esh jack fruit waste, in a feeding experiment of 90 days. Feed consumption and Milk yield did not vary significantly between the groups, however, feed cost per kg milk production reduced by 15 per cent in group H. It can be concluded that fresh jack fruit waste can replace one third of concentrate mixture in the ration of crossbred cows.
