Fishmeal was replaced with poultry by-product meal (PBPM) at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 per cent levels on weight by weight (W/W) basis in a trial for 4x28 days period by alloting 24 layers for each diet. The hen-day egg production, feed intake and feed efficiency were significantly (P<0.01) affected in 100% PBPM fed group compared to other groups. However, the body weight gains, egg weight, albumen index, haemoglobin, total serum proteins and income over feed cost per dozen eggs were not significantly affected. Mortality (0–2%) and causes thereof were found to be independent of dietary treatments. Based on the economic traits, the PBPM could be incorporated safely upto 50 per cent level by replacing fish meal on w/w basis without the performance getting affected in the layers.
