Abstract

A newly developed forage-bajra composite (Cv. FBC-16) contained comparable protein (9.20%) and lower cell wall (61.70%) and oxalate (1.82%) contents than the existing variety PBC-141. The digestibility of proximate principles was also higher in FBC-16 than that in PCB-141 in buffalo calves. The voluntary DMI (kg/d) and effective degradability (%) values for FBC-16 and PBC-141 were 3.99 and 44.8 and 3.66 and 44.5,respectively. The newly developed variety FBC-16 showed an edge over existing variety PBC-141 in terms of DCP, TDN and DM degradation rate. In fodder production, FBC-16 surpassed PCB-141 by a margin of 32.2%.
