Abstract

Significant variation in proximate composition in seeds and hull portions of Prosopis juliflora were observed in samples collected from different sources (n=18). Crude protein content varied in the range of 30.57 to 36.17% in seeds and 6.68 to 10.67% in hulls. The ether extract in seeds and hulls ranged from 2.44 to 5.08% and 1.46 to 2.71%, respectively. The crude fibre in seeds varied from 4.59 to 8.04% whereas in hulls, it varied from 22.10 to 30.98%. It was concluded that variations in chemical composition do exist in seeds and hulls portions of Prosopis juliflora pods as per the place of their collection.
