Optimisation Linseed Cake in Straw Based Diets for Barbari Bucks

Nine Barbari buck (26 kg B. wt.) divided in 3 groups of 3 each, were offered barley straw @ approximately 26 g/kg body weight. The barley grain was given @ 12g DM/kg W°.⁷⁵ to all the animals, however linseed cake was given @ 5.80, 8.86 and 12.01 g DM/kg W^0.75 in groups A, B and C respectively. The intake (g/kg W^0.75) of DM was 53.93, 52.73 and 58.06; CP 4.44, 5.28 and 6.36; TDN 28.65, 29.45 and 33.51 in groups A, B and C respectively. The animals of group A and B were in negative nitrogen balance but positive in group C. It is concluded that ration consisting of barley straw, barley grain and linseed cake supplemented with mineral vitamin supplement along with common salt as given to group C, can meet the maintenance requirement of Barbari goats weighing about 26 kg in winter season.
