Inclusion of Corn Steep Liquor in Concentrate Mixture for Lactating Crossbred Cows

An experiment of 210 days (30 weeks) duration was conducted to evaluate the effect of corn steep liquor inclusion at 0 (T₁), 10 (T₂) and 20% (T₃) levels in concentrate mixtures of lactating cows. Fifteen lactating cows were divided into three equal groups following completely randomized design. Respective concentrate mixtures were offered to meet DCP requirements. Mature pasture grass was fed as basal roughage along with 5.0 kg green ‘NB-21’. Dry matter intake, nutrient intake, digestibility of nutrients, balances of N, P & Ca and efficiency of protein and energy utilisation were not affected due to feeding of corn steep liquor. Milk yield and milk composition was also not affected significantly due to CSL feeding. Cost of feeding per kg milk and FCM produced was less by 19 and 24 paise, respectively under T₂ (10% CSL fed group) than control (T₁), however, treatment differences were non significant. Thus, present study suggested that corn steep liquor can be fed at 10% levels in concentrate mixture without affecting production and efficiency of lactating cows with economic advantage.
