Abstract

Feeding trial was conducted on 12 lactating Murrah buffalo kept on four experimental rations with rice straw/sorghum stover being the chief roughage source supplemented with or without UMMB to study the effect on nutrient digestibility, quantity and quality of milk production. Significantly (P<0.01) higher digestibility for DM, CP and CF were observed in buffaloes fed UMMB supplemented rations in comparison to unsupplemented UMMB. No significant effect on the quantity of milk production was observed by UMMB supplementation compared to concentrate feeding. However, UMMB supplemented animals yielded 1.5 kg more of 4 per cent fat corrected milk (FCM) and fat content by 1 per cent.
