An experiment was conducted on twelve flstulated male Karan-Swiss calves to study the effect of 0, 33, 66 and 100 per cent replacement of wheat straw with 7.5 per cent sodium hydroxide spray treated rice husk on the volatile fatty acids fractions, fibre digestibility smd non-glucogenic ratio. The results did not show any significant difference either in molar percentage of acetate, propionate and butyrate or their individual concentration except that the molar percentage of acetate decreased due to feeding of alkali treated rice husk. Similarly, NGR and digestibility coefficients of various cell wall components were not affected due to treatments.
