The substrates containing different energy sources e.g., wheat, sugarcane straw molasses and barley grain wire incubated through nylon bags in the rumen of crossbred cattle and buffalo steers. Substrates were made isonitrogenous by adding urea. Disappearance of DM, OM and N was more (P< 0.01) with barley than with straw and molasses. The effect due to species was statistically non-significant (P>0.05). The coefficients of nitrogen dcgradabiliry of lucerne hay with the three types of energy sources were calculated as 0.54, 0.61 and 0.68 respectively with straw, molasses and barley.
